AGING & IlLNESS
Each stage in life can require adjustments in reflection, outlook, and daily routine. Growing older and navigating health issues are inevitable realities for most of us, but we are often unprepared for the disruption they bring to our sense of self. Tending to our emotional needs at these times has benefits to our minds and bodies. Mental health concerns can obviously result or worsen from physical health issues, but the opposite is also true: cardiac disease, hypertension, stroke, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, and weight concerns can increase up to 40% for individuals with untreated mental illnesses. Talk therapy with an experienced counselor can support your overall wellness at each stage in life.
ANXIETY & DEPRESSION
Anxiety and depression are two of the most commonly diagnosed mental health issues in the U.S. Frequently, anxiety and depression are signs of other problems in your life and not a "disorder" of their own. A skilled therapist can help you better understand your symptoms and decide how to approach your personal situation. Using your own goals as a guide, multiple tools and styles of approach can help you restore motivation, comfort, and life satisfaction.
CAREGIVER bURNOUT
Caring for a loved one is often isolating and taxing, both physically and emotionally. In both parenting and adult caregiving, adjusting to the changing needs of others can come at the expense of your own self-care and understanding. Issues related to identity, dignity, role reversal, navigating illness, energy conservation, sleep hygiene, financial management, and safety considerations are new territories that overwhelm our sense of control. Targeted mental health support and counseling services can assist your decision-making while prioritizing your strength and sense of purpose.
CLINICAL SUPERVISION
Campfire Counseling offers cost-conscious and targeted supervision for pre-licensed clinical social work (MSW/SWLC) professionals and therapists. Areas of clinical experience include abuse, trauma, family counseling, personality disorders, aging, illness, hospice care, death, and grief/loss interventions. Supervision approaches are collaborative focused Feminist (Empowerment) and Psychodynamic (Relational) theories. Priorities include ethics, self-care, self-reflection, clinical empowerment, career development, and private practice management. Remote and in-person options available.
GRIEF & LOSS
Navigating grief, whether your own or someone else's, is disruptive. Loss is a universal human phenomenon that is individual and frequently isolating in it's experience. Profound and disorienting grief can result from losses related to death, trauma, illness, heartbreak, divorce, transition, empty nest, menopause, job loss, retirement, and more. Whether you are navigating a loss of function, life, or personal identity, skilled therapeutic care can help ease suffering and restore hope and meaning.
PSYCHEDELIC INTEGRATION
Integration is key to using psychedelic medications for healing and personal growth. Psychedelic medications have become increasingly popular in helping individuals increase insight of themselves and the world. Medicines such as Ketamine, psilocybin, LSD, mescaline/peyote, ibogaine, and ayahuasca/DMT have been successfully used in addressing chronic anxiety, depression, PTSD, addiction, and more. Legal use of these tools varies by state, but preparation and integration with an educated and licensed mental health professional is vital in reducing harm and increasing therapeutic benefits. Integration is an intentional process of working through, translating, and processing the content of psychedelic experiences. The purpose is to mindfully incorporate lessons and insights gained into one's everyday life to create sustainable change.
TERMINAL ILLNESS
Navigating a terminal prognosis can be accompanied by confusion and feelings of despair. Issues related to spiritual and existential beliefs, resource options, disease-specific presentation, and care planning require informed and compassionate support and professional guidance. Experienced counseling services can help improve our clarity, autonomy, courage, and acceptance when faced with end-of-life decision-making.
TRAUMA & abUSE
Trauma is defined not by the situation, but by the effect it has on us. Survivors of traumatic experiences and abuse have life-altering changes in orientation, perception, and relation to others. The dynamics of recovery and healing require courage and specialized care. You deserve the most informed and relevant interventions that combine scientific research and identified personal strengths to aid in your healing journey. Trauma recovery is approached with the primary goal of helping you improve your relationship with yourself. Moving you from managing to mindfulness, and from doing to being.
WALKING THERAPY
Walking therapy, or walk-and-talk, is a creative approach to traditional counseling sessions. It involves getting outdoors and engaging in talk therapy while walking in nature. It can increase therapeutic benefits through additional release of endorphins from being outdoors, moving the body, and engaging in a more relaxed, natural conversation. Movement can make face-to-face therapy less awkward, soothe the nervous system, and make it easier to process emotions. Bonus benefits: exercise and fresh air!
