FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is therapy?
Psychotherapy, counseling, or "talk therapy" is a conversation between you and a trained therapist in a safe and confidential environment. Therapy is intended to help you explore, understand, and improve your feelings, behaviors, and coping skills. A skilled therapist listens without judgement, helps identify your values and priorities, and provides research-backed perspectives and insights to help you regain confidence and stability. Studies have shown psychotherapy to be the most effective method for improving a variety of mental health symptoms and responses to external stressors. Therapy is the preferred tool for self-awareness and self-improvement, regardless of mental health challenges. There is no "one-size-fits-all" approach to psychotherapy. It can be as light or in-depth as you like, using a variety of theoretical models and techniques to provide insight and promote positive change. Learn more about therapy and what to expect here.
What are community visits?
You or your loved one may be placed in a facility or struggling with mobility issues. This should never impede someone's ability to obtain quality counseling and support. Teletherapy is a great option for many people, but not the same as in-person connection and conversation, especially so for older adults, those with vision or hearing loss, or people with functional limitations who are suffering from isolation. I have spent 20 years meeting with people in their home settings and know firsthand the benefits of providing compassionate care where people are most comfortable, whether that be in their kitchen or at their bedside. Learn more about how at-home therapy is making a comeback here.
What if I'm not comfortable with technology?
Online therapy is an increasingly popular tool that offers a more comfortable therapy option for many individuals. People in rural areas, in inclement weather, or those with physical limitations, illness, transportation issues, or busy schedules can access teletherapy services at their convenience. Although technology and video conferencing can be intimidating for many older adults, most people find it easy to navigate after the initial time. No complicated equipment is required and clients can often utilize services without internet access or a smartphone. Step-by-step guidance will be provided to help with any technical issues, and most people find it to be user-friendly with minimal help.
HOW LONG DOES THERAPY LAST?
Each counseling session lasts 50 minutes, but the amount and length of overall therapy can last as long as you'd like. Many initial appointments are intended to address an immediate issue, which can be resolved in shorter timeframes. Other times, people want to continue to explore other concerns or use therapy for ongoing support and self-improvement. Frequencies can be increased as needed or reduced for maintenance purposes.

ABOUT ME
|
I have had the honor of helping individuals and families in different stages of life transitions for the past 20 years. My background is in clinical social work with a focus on trauma and aging. The majority of my work has been with older adults navigating the complexities of abuse, trauma, illness, loss, and death. I currently work in hospice, see private therapy clients, and have assisted SubRosa Therapy with psychedelic medicine services. It has been an incredible honor to hold space for people in their most vulnerable moments of healing while learning and growing myself.
I view therapy as a mutually beneficial relationship that requires honesty and humility. I use humanistic and systems theory perspectives, which value an individual's unique experience and understands them in relation to their environmental context. I combine existential and narrative therapies to guide my approach, which prioritizes helping clients find their own meaning in life. Many different models can be applied within these theories, and I enjoy working with people to clarify their priorities and determine what style works best with their personalities. I value pragmatic solutions, creative interventions, and respect for everyone's personal journey. I believe individual wellness and self-connection leads to happier and healthier communities, and that we are all growing together. CERTIFICATIONS:
